{Letter A} Alligators

Letter A-Alligator

Today my 4 year old son and I started our first alphabet letter study of the school year by doing some alligator activities to go with the letter A. We read the book Zack's Alligator  by Shirley Mozelle. The book is about a boy named Zack who receives an alligator keychain from his uncle in the mail with the instructions to water her. When Zack places the alligator in the water she turns … [Read more...]

Real Life Learning: Kids in the Kitchen

Children have a natural curiosity for all things related to the kitchen.  At least that is the case for my children.  They love to empty out some of my cabinets and either pretend they or cooking or bang the pans to make "music". When my oldest son was a toddler he used to come running into the kitchen as soon as he heard me start to stir or mix something.  He would hop up on a chair and ask to … [Read more...]

I is for Igloo

Today we started our study of the letter "I" and the color white. Since I am teaching the children the short sound of the letter "I" I couldn't think of anything that combined our color and letter of the week better than an igloo. I mentioned to my husband and daughter that I was trying to figure out how to make an igloo into a project similar to those I do at the beginning of every week. I … [Read more...]

G is for Goat

Today was our last day of preschool for the week because Friday is a day off for our local schools. So, I am taking the day off as well. While it will be nice to have a day off I found it tough to get everything covered that I wanted this week. Hopefully, the children have an understanding of the letter "G" and the color orange now. I sent home their folders today. On Monday the children … [Read more...]

Letter E Activities

Today we finished our study of the letter "E" and the color purple. Fridays are the days we usually do some of the favorite activities from the week and review. Here are some of the highlights from the day. The children finished their "E" folders and took them home today. The elephant paintings I wrote about on Monday were the fronts of their folders. All of the elephants turned out so … [Read more...]

Letter B Activities

Today we finished our study of the letter "B" and the color blue. I sent home the blue folders I had helped the children make. The outside of the folder was painted with blue bubbles. (See post here for instructions.) Inside the folder I put their letter "B" mini books from First School, a copy of the rhyme Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, a bear paper with their name on it, the numbers 1-10, … [Read more...]

B is for Bear

Today we completed more letter "B" activities. We started off by reading the book Corduroy by Don Freeman. It is a cute story about a little toy bear who tries to find his missing button in the department store where he is for sale. After our story we chanted the rhyme below and acted out the motions. The children liked it so much we did it twice and another time before they went home. Teddy … [Read more...]
